Founded in 1973, the Mano River Union (MRU) is an Intergovernmental Organization comprising four (4) Member States, namely; Sierra Leone, Liberia, Guinea and Cöte d’Ivoire. The Union’s Headquarters is located in Freetown, Sierra Leone with coordination offices (Sub-offices) in Liberia, Guinea and Cöte d’Ivoire. With the main objective of promoting economic cooperation, integration and peace amongst its Member States, the MRU has a Secretariat which ensures the leadership, administrative and technical machineries are achieving the goals and objectives of the Union.
The MRU Secretariat has received funds
from the GEF through IUCN for the implementation of the regional component of
the « Mano River Ecosystem Conservation and International Water Resource
Management » Project for the period of 4 years.
The project targets the conservation and
sustainable use of trans-boundary water basins and their biodiversity resources
within the MRU Sub-region. Targeted areas within the MRU Sub-region
includes: the upper Guinea forest covering Sierra Leone, Guinea, Liberia and
Cote d’Ivoire.
Therefore, MRU Secretariat is accepting

DUTIES/
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Communication Expert will assist the
MRU Secretariat in the implementation of its communication strategy and the
« Mano River Ecosystem Conservation and International Water Resource
Management » Project as follows:
·
Support the Project Regional Coordinator
in the development and implementation of the regional communication strategy of
the Project, the introduction of communication tools and the preparation of
proposals, work plans and progress reports of the project;
·
Contribute to fund-raising efforts, in
particular by writing the components related to the submission of applications
for funding for the region
·
Provide support for the development of
institutional identity and MRU/IUCN’s image in communication products
(letterhead, PowerPoint presentations, brochures, books, publications, etc );
·
Monitor the design and content of any
communication tools in accordance with MRU/ IUCN guidelines;
·
Monitor the preparation, printing and
distribution of documents, including giving instructions to authors, printers,
graphic designers and donors;
·
Ensure the regular maintenance of the
website and take an active part in the preparation and publication of the
annual reports in relation to the geographical area of the Project;
·
Manage important contact information for
mailing lists;
·
Develop a plan for the implementation of
MRU Communications
·
Strategy, plan and direct the rebranding
of MRU’s objectives, operational image as well as options for the designing of
a new logo to be approved by the Union Ministerial Council;
·
Work under the supervision of the
Secretary General and relevant staff to revamp and update the M RIJ website to
deliver a new portal and internet gateway for the repository, archiving and
retrieval of documentations of the M RU;
·
Coordinate the gathering of information
and special features on projects and programmes undertaken by MRU in
collaboration with partners and publish them in the MRU newspaper/ journal;
·
Work with the Office of the Secretary
General on the publishing of diaries, calendars reflecting the corporate image
of the MRU and other agreed paraphernalia;
·
Direct the design and manufacturing of
corporate gift items reflecting the corporate branding of the MRU;
·
Secure media outlets for covering events
undertaken by the MRU in a well planned and organized manner and
·
Perform other task as deem by the
Secretary General
QUALIFICATIONS:
A graduate degree in communication
studies with good knowledge of corporate communication. Postgraduate diploma or
its equivalent in communication studies will be an added advantage.
PROFESSIONAL
EXPERIENCES:
A minimum of ten (10) years experience
in a similar position within a governmental or international organization
SKILLS REQUIRED:

Bilingual (French/English): Applicant
should be able to communicate and write in English and French;
·
Good knowledge in computer software (MS
Word, Powerpoint, etc.);
·
Good knowledge of the media at regional
and international level; Sound knowledge of issues on natural resources
management, peace, security, regional integration and development in the
sub-region;
·
Very good oral and writing communication
skills;
·
Ability to develop research themes;
·
Ability to work independently in a
multicultural environment
